AI Watermark Remover · Last updated August 20, 2026
AI Watermark Remover is a browser extension that removes hidden Unicode markers from copied text and strips metadata from downloaded images, entirely on your device. This policy explains exactly what the extension does and does not do with your data.
Summary
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers.
- No remote servers. The extension never makes network requests of its own.
- No account, sign-in, or personal information is ever collected.
- All processing happens locally, in your browser, using your device's own memory and CPU.
- Nothing is ever uploaded, transmitted, or shared with any third party.
What the extension processes
When you copy text or download an image on a supported site, the extension inspects that content locally in the browser to detect and remove:
- Hidden Unicode watermarking (zero-width characters, lookalike spaces, bidirectional control characters, confusable letters, and similar invisible markers) in copied text.
- EXIF, XMP, C2PA, and JUMBF metadata embedded in downloaded JPEG, PNG, and WebP images.
This inspection happens in memory, at the moment you copy or download content. The extension does not read your clipboard or files outside of that moment, and does not scan pages in the background.
What is stored, and where
Your settings (which cleanup rules are enabled, which sites are active)
and a local history log of what was cleaned are stored only in your
browser's built-in chrome.storage.local. This data:
- Stays on your device.
- Is never transmitted anywhere by the extension.
- Is only removed if you clear it yourself or uninstall the extension.
The extension does not use cookies, does not set any remote analytics identifiers, and does not sync data to any external account.
Sites the extension works on
The extension is active by default on chatgpt.com,
chat.openai.com, claude.ai, and
gemini.google.com. You can enable it on additional sites
yourself, one at a time or all at once — that access is requested from
the browser at the moment you grant it, and is never expanded silently
in a future update.
Permissions the extension requests
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
storage | Save your settings and local cleanup history on-device. |
downloads | Detect and clean metadata from files as they are downloaded. |
offscreen | Run image metadata parsing off the visible page, still entirely locally. |
notifications | Optionally let you know when content was cleaned. |
scripting | Inject the local cleanup logic into supported pages. |
| Host permissions (supported AI sites, plus any you opt into) | Required so the extension can watch copy/download actions on those pages. No page content is read outside of that purpose. |
Third parties
The extension does not integrate with, call, or share data with any third-party service, API, or analytics provider. There is no server component to this extension at all.
Children's privacy
The extension does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children, because it does not collect data from anyone.
